Fibonacci Squares

The Fibonacci Squares collection shows arrangements of Fibonacci squares whose side lengths are Fibonacci numbers.

Telescoping Fibonacci Squares

Telescoping Fibonacci Squares is a series of nested Fibonacci squares, one small square above the next larger one.

The larger one thus becomes the frame of the smaller one. Due to the law of Fibonacci numbers, the width of the frame is half the length of the next smallest Fibonacci square. The ratio of frame and content approaches the golden ratio with the size of the squares. This creates a natural harmony.

This construction results in a depth (or, depending on the viewer, a height) of the picture towards the center, which takes on a third dimension when viewed for a longer period of time, similar to a telescope.

Telescoping Squares I

In the picture Telescoping Fibonacci Squares I, the squares are colored in such a way that they change from black to white from the middle.

This gives the diagonals a radiant glow to the eye, which is, however, an optical illusion.
